Sir Alex Ferguson has explained how he is "partly responsible" for Liverpool's current success under Jurgen Klopp

Sir Alex Ferguson, as one of Manchester United's greatest icons, was rightfully viewed as a villain by archrivals Liverpool during his 26-year tenure at Old Trafford.

Before retiring in 2013, the great Scot led a period of dominance for the Red Devils, leading the team to an incredible 13 Premier League titles.

As United won title after title, things looked bleaker on Merseyside, where Liverpool had a long wait for a domestic triumph.

It wasn't until 2020 that Liverpool reclaimed some honor and ended a 30-year drought by storming to the title with a massive tally of 99 points, 18 ahead of their nearest rival.

Jurgen Klopp, of course, was the manager who oversaw the triumph nearly five years after taking over at Anfield.

Throughout his illustrious career, the German has proven to be the ideal complement for Liverpool, leading them to the pinnacles of European and global football.

He's not slowing down either, with the Reds attempting a record quadruple this season.

While Liverpool has risen to prominence, United has plummeted since Ferguson's departure, and their trophy drought is about to reach five years.

The possibility that Ferguson himself played a key role in luring Klopp to Anfield is rubbing salt in their wounds – and adding to Liverpool's delight.

The 80-year-old recalled meeting with Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers on the continent and advising him to "select a team with expectation," Ferguson told Ladbible TV  managers are Klopp and [ Manchester City boss Pep] Guardiola, without a doubt.

"I've observed them at work, and I'm partly to blame for their next moves." Klopp met me in Switzerland and asked for my advice on relocating to England, to which I replied, "Pick your best team, pick a team with expectation." Klopp followed Ferguson's instructions by selecting a club that had been European champions five times at the time of his appointment.

More remarkable is the 54-year-ability old's to live up to the "expectation" of the Kop, adding yet another trophy to his cabinet with Carabao Cup victory this season.

So, while Ferguson will always be remembered – and respected – as one of Liverpool's greatest adversaries, the Anfield faithful may be grateful to him for laying the groundwork for their perfect marriage with Klopp.

Sir Alex Ferguson has stated that he is "partially responsible" for Liverpool's current success under Jurgen Klopp.
