Erik ten Hag, the manager of Ajax, is one of Europe's most highly regarded managers, as evidenced by his fantastic record with the Dutch club, which is inevitably why he was interviewed for the top post at Manchester United. Following all of the speculations and conjecture, the Premier League giants eventually made their move, but questions linger despite indications that the talks went smoothly.

However, after Eurosport released Louis van Gaal's thoughts, the top candidate for the United States post has been encouraged to reconsider. Based on his previous experience, the current Netherlands head coach was quite harsh in his remarks, stating that ten Hag "must choose a football club and not a commercial club," lambasting what Manchester United has become. He believes that the current owners value economic success and financial gain over the quest of silverware.

Interestingly, if Twitter transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano's comments are correct, the United role may not be ten Hag's only job prospect. According to the Italian journalist, ten hag has also been approached by two other clubs, though the transfer gossip specialist did not specify which ones. Nonetheless, it is commonly assumed that the 52-year-old intends to quit Ajax, making him a prime target for major clubs around Europe.

Names that stand out in the frame

After he was recently questioned by the Old Trafford management and stories began to spread that initial negotiations had been mainly favorable, bookies instantly adjusted their odds on who would be the next Manchester United manager. For a long time, PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino has been the undisputed betting favourite, but following the meeting with ten Hag, the current Ajax coach is now regarded the odds-on favourite to take the position.

Nonetheless, the Manchester United board of directors insists that, even after interviewing ten Hag, other possibilities are being considered. According to the Express, the next managerial decision will be critical, and Pochettino appears to be one of them, having openly acknowledged he is dissatisfied with life in Paris, while the top brass at United have long respected the Argentine coach.

Another more recent alternative is Thomas Tuchel, who is currently in charge of Chelsea after their owner, Roman Abramovich, was sanctioned by the UK Government. When the Russian entrepreneur put the London club up for sale, Tuchel's name was soon linked to the forthcoming United post, as speculation about the fate of players and staff at Stamford Bridge began.

Aside from the top three candidates, Spain's head coach, Luis Enrique, is another name that has been mentioned frequently. However, the former Barcelona manager has all but ruled himself out of contention, stating recently that he will coach the Spanish national side at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Given this, it appears unlikely that United would be willing to wait until after the international competition.

Despite only joining Tottenham Hotspur after Nuno Espirito Santo was fired earlier this season, Italian coach Antonio Conte is still listed among the betting odds available at bookies.Longer odds are also available for Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui, however there are serious doubts about his ability to adapt to English football.

SBO has cut through the cacophony of online betting to gain a better image of all the major prospects, as well as the latest odds for each prospective alternative Manchester United may be contemplating. Their experts have thoroughly examined what betting firms have to offer, resulting in unbiased reviews that propose the top betting sites available in each country, highlighting where the best odds and deals can be found.

The requirement for quick choices

While it appears like Manchester United is eager to bide their time, methodically examining all of the club's existing managerial alternatives, waiting too long before making an appointment might be damaging. Delay too long, and planning for next season and beyond will be hampered, as present players postpone decisions to renew or extend contracts, and potential transfer targets may lose interest.
