Luke Shaw suffered a double leg break during a UEFA Champions League match between PSV Eindhoven and Manchester United. He also said that he was afraid he might never be able to play again.
9. Viborg FF's Jacob Olesen (Danish Superliga)
In October 2006, Danish striker Jacob Olesen sustained a horrible injury when his left ankle dislocated during a match. He was out for six months as a result of that.

Norbert Siegmann sliced Ewald Lienen's leg open with his studs, exposing his muscle and bone, resulting in a deep open wound of 25cm.

Henrik Larsson - Celtic vs. Lyon, 21 October 1999
Larsson sustained a career-ending injury when his leg was broken in two places. He was sidelined for eight months as a result of this. Celtic were beaten 0-1 by Lyon in the UEFA Cup encounter.

4. Luc Nilis, Aston Villa vs. Ipswich Town, 9 September 2000
Nilis, a Belgian striker, moved to Aston Villa on a free transfer. Despite this, his chances of playing in the Premier League were dashed when he suffered a double fracture in his right leg after colliding with Ipswich goalkeeper Richard Wright.
Four months later, Nilis was forced to declare his retirement.

1. Reading against Chelsea, 14 October 2006, Petr Cech
Following a disputed challenge from Reading's Stephen Hunt, Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech came dangerously close to losing his life. He was seriously concussed after being kneed in the head, and he collapsed in the dressing room as a result.
