Stella Owusu, 32, was detained by the police in Yamfo, Tano North District, Ahafo Region, for burning her seven-year-old son's thumbs with a hot iron to prevent him from sucking them.

She went on to inflict injury on the charred fingers with a razor blade after the heinous conduct.

Joshua Osei, the young kid, has been taken to a medical facility for treatment, while the mother, who is also breastfeeding a newborn, will be referred for a psychiatric test to ascertain whether she is well or not, according to the police.

Joshua is unable to attend school at Yamfo Primary 'A' Methodist School because of the burns and cuts on his fingers, according to sources. The woman has been arrested, according to DCOP David Eklu, the Ahafo Regional Deputy Police Commander, who described her actions as "wicked and tragic."

"She is being treated by officers from the Ghana Police Service's Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit, and we would prefer to file proper charges against her after she has been diagnosed by a medical facility so that we can decide if she is sane or not," DCOP Eklu said.

Little Joshua is the third of Stella Owusu and her husband's five children.

Neighbors, on the other hand, claim she is cruel to the youngsters.
