A land battle at Akyem Asunafo in the Eastern Region's Atiwa East District has left one person dead and several injured.

According to reports, the event occurred on Friday.

This occurred during a time when a large number of residents left their jobs to thwart an alleged galamsey activity in the neighborhood.

Residents received claims that a group had gone to the area to change their farmlands into a galamsey site, according to Emmanuel Kyeremah, who narrated the incident on Adom FM.

They went to the site to confirm the reports, only to discover that two excavators had been brought in to start the operation.

However, several visitors to the site attacked them with machetes and other weapons without provocation, resulting in injuries.

Mr Kyeremah said that one individual, whose identity is unknown, was riding a motorcycle with a rifle.

However, he collapsed and accidently shot the bullet, which struck one person in the rib, critically injuring him.

He claimed that one Annan, who had freely sold his farm to the accused galamseyers, had also enlisted the help of Macho men in the raid.

He stated that their chief has informed the locals that he is unaware of such actions and has left for Kumasi to attend to other things.
