The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ministry of Education (MoE), Kwasi Kwarteng following the confirmation of April 4, 2022, as the first-year SHS students reopening date has said the reporting day is not mandatory for students.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Asempa 94.7 FM monitored by EducationWeb, Kwarteng said April 4, 2022, was set as a tentative date on the 2022 academic calendar for the next batch of Free SHS students to report to school.
According to the MoE spokesperson, the provisional school reporting date announced by the Ghana Education Service does not necessarily mean parents obligatory are to send their wards to their respective placed schools on April 4.
His comment follows the announcement made by the management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) on Thursday for students who qualified for computer placement to report to their schools to commence admission processes.
“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to remind parents, guardians and students, that admission processes for first-years in all Senior High/Technical schools are going on smoothly,” the Service stated on Thursday.
In a statement dated March 31, 2022, the Education Service said the admission or admission process is free and that under no circumstance should a parent or student pay money to any teacher or head of Senior High/Technical school.
“School Authorities are cautioned that under no circumstances should there be a demand for money that would hinder the admission process of any the placed student,” the release signed by the GES spokeswoman, Cassandra noted.
Some parents of students who sat for the 2021 BECE citing the delay in the release of the 2021 school placement have expressed disappointment in the management of the Ghana Education Service for not extending the reopening date.
Thursday after the Service said the reporting day remains April 4, 2022, they told EducationWeb the school reopening date is limited for them to prepare adequately before they send their wards to their placed secondary schools.
The parents’ displeasure comes after they petitioned the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service to postpone the date but unfortunately that was not the case after today’s announcement.
