After a crucial 1-0 win against Juventus on Sunday, Inter manager Simone Inzaghi maintains his club will keep chasing Milan and Napoli for the Serie A championship.
Inter drew within three points of the top two in the battle for the Scudetto after winning the Derby d'Italia thanks to a penalty from Hakan Calhanoglu in the first half.
Juventus, led by Massimiliano Allegri, would consider themselves unlucky to have lost despite having 22 shots to Inter's five, with the winning goal being the only shot on target all game.
Inzaghi commented after the victory to DAZN: "Milan and Napoli may be pursued. We've dropped some points, which we'll strive to reclaim during the next eight games. It's still a long way off, and while [Milan and Napoli] are the favorites, others will argue that it's us."
Calhanoglu's first shot was saved, but the rebound was shoved into the net, and the former Lazio head coach believed there was no debate over the winning penalty.
The goal was first disallowed and Juve was granted a free kick, but the referee then requested that the penalty be retaken once it was discovered that the goal had been disallowed. Before the first was taken, Matthijs de Ligt encroached into the box, and Calhanoglu made no mistake.
"The penalty kick was there, it was already a rebound goal, and it shouldn't have been repeated," stated Inzaghi.
Despite rumors that he was under pressure following recent performances, Inzaghi claimed that Inter has offered him a contract extension, but that he would not participate in conversations until the end of the current season.
He explained, "I have a two-year contract that the club has requested me to extend." "Because contracts are worth what they are worth, I requested that we wait until the end of the season.
"I sense the club's and supporters' faith in me. I'm quite pleased with the results. For seven months, we had a blast, but then some critiques surfaced. We've gone through a lot.
