According to Albert Kan-Dapaah, the Minister of National Security, the government believes terrorists are planning an attack on Ghana as a result of insecurity in most of the country's neighbors.
He did say, though, that Ghana's security forces are on high alert and ready to foil any such effort.
When asked about Ghana's security situation in Parliament on Monday, April 4, he stated these things.
"[We] remain on high alert to prevent terrorist infiltration by proactive measures and counter-terrorism operations along the country's borders," Mr Kan-Dapaah said. All state security agencies will stay watchful in their efforts to protect the country.
"Apart from Burkina Faso and Mali, there have been a few terrorist incidents in Cote D'Ivoire, roughly seven in Benin, and one in Togo recently."
"Ghana has not yet been attacked, but we believe that we must remain calm at all times to guarantee that if an attack arises, we will be ready to respond." This isn't to imply that terrorists aren't planning their next attack. We feel they are planning something, but we must do everything we can to defeat them."
"We were all hoping at the start of 2022 that we would be able to save the global economy from the ring of the COVID pandemic," he said. On the other side, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has pushed the world economy even further into the abyss of economic ruin.
"Coups in [certain West African nations], such as Mali and Burkina Faso, have exacerbated the problem."
"I'd want to emphasize that Ghana is reasonably stable, despite a variety of external and domestic dangers that threaten security and stability.
"These risks have been characterized by criminality, land and chieftaincy disputes, piracy, and secessionist activity," Mr Kan-Dapaah said, adding that a variety of actions had been implemented to address the concerns.
