COMMUNITIES AFFECTED BY FLOODS HAVE BEEN NEGLECTED – DZIFA GOMASHIE

Dzifa Gomashie, a Ketu MP, claims that the villages affected by Sunday's flooding in the Keta municipality have been neglected.

She remarked on Monday's episode of JoyNews' The Pulse that people of Keta and Anloga have not been cared for since the floods last year.

According to her, Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Works and Housing Minister, stated that the affected areas will be considered for the second phase of sea defense by the end of 2021, but there is presently no contractor on site.

She also indicated that she requested temporary refuge for the residents in the event of another tidal wave, but that request has yet to be granted.

"As far as I am aware, nothing has been done." "Are we now going to do that because the tidal wave hit us in March, May, and November?" she wondered.

The Ketu South MP's remark came after tidal waters displaced some inhabitants of Keta and Agavedzi in the Volta region on Sunday, following the November disaster that left at least 3,000 people homeless.

Communities like Abutiakope, Kedzikope, and Keta Central were particularly hard hit, and homeless people were left with nothing.

Residents have been forced to seek shelter on higher ground, while others have no choice but to sleep on mattresses along main roadways due to the recent tragedy.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Joy News' AM Show, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu South, Maxwell Lugudor, said that the government has yet to commence the construction of 15 two-bedroom housing units for the displaced victims.

He stated that the housing units will take around three months to complete, but the Municipality is presently erecting temporary tents for the victims in partnership with NADMO.
