The firing of previous Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has been blamed for the Ghana Black Stars' difficulties, according to Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.
Mr. Nyantakyi, he said, "was a dynamic addition" who made a significant contribution to the national team's victory. His dismissal, however, following the airing of the Number 12 documentary, was the catalyst for the senior national team's issues.
"When we were able to bring down Kwesi Nyantakyi, we also brought down Ghana football," Mr. Bagbin said after swearing in newly elected executives of the Parliamentary Press Corps.
The Speaker revealed that during a discussion with FIFA Executives, they questioned why Mr Nyantakyi was treated this way.
"The value he brought to their gatherings." He was well-liked, well-respected, and Ghana's football was among the best in the world. We assumed we were dealing with Nyantakyi, but we didn't realize we were dealing with the entire country," he added.
"People are now appealing for the government to pardon Nyantakyi and invite him back to assist," he said.
Nonetheless, he praised the Black Stars' new technical team and encouraged all Ghanaians to rally behind them.
"Because of the new technical team that we put in place, we were able to achieve wonders in Nigeria," he stated.
"We were able to gather future potential young athletes who were willing to die for Ghana."
