Fabrizio Romano, a well-known transfer specialist, has offered an update on Barcelona's pursuit of Robert Lewandowski.
The 33-year-old striker is in the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich and is pondering a summer move to Barcelona to pursue a fresh challenge in his career after winning everything with the Bavarian giants.
Because their chase of Erling Haaland has stalled recently, Barça has been after the captain of Poland as well.
There have been several reports that Lewandowski has already signed to terms with the Blaugrana and is eager to join the La Liga giants. However, on his podcast, Romano denied such allegations, stating that no deal has been reached as of yet.
However, the Italian writer has revealed that Barcelona are in negotiations with Lewandowski's advisors about a possible summer transfer, with the striker eager to join the Catalans. Romano further claims that the veteran is looking for a long-term deal with Barça.
That, however, might become a sticking point in discussions, as the club is thought to be giving him merely a two-year contract with an option for an extra year.
Despite being 33 years old, Lewandowski is gaining strength and has already scored 45 goals this season. As a result, it's reasonable that the seasoned campaigner is looking for a longer-term on his next contract, especially because it may be the final large contract of his career.
Romano also stressed that, for the time being, Barcelona's conversations have only been with the center agent, forward's Pini Zahavi. As of yet, there have been no interactions between the Catalans and Bayern Munich.
Only if Lewandowski does not sign a new deal with Die Roten would a transfer be considered. If he signs a new contract with the German champions, Barcelona is unlikely to seek his signature.
