Thomas Tuchel dismisses Conor Gallagher's threat to Premier League rivals, indicating Chelsea's strategy

Following a significant rule change that could benefit Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel provided some insight into his future Premier League plans.

Thomas Tuchel was ecstatic when he was asked about the Premier League's rule change last week.

In a press conference before the Brentford game on Friday, the German expressed his excitement about the number of substitutions allowed increasing from three to five at the start of next season.

"It's a brilliant decision – we were the only league in Europe to do it, so it's a fantastic decision." "Tuchel got things started. "I dare to say it is a wise decision for everyone because I used to coach underdog teams  enough and I would have liked to have had five substitutes to ensure that more players played and that the intensity level was maintained or increased against stronger teams.

"Given the number of games we play, the number of competitions we play, and the number of players who go away on international duty – and they go again in the summer with Nations League – it is absolutely necessary for us to protect the players, protect the quality, and use the full potential of tactical influences in the game." So, excellent decision."

Tuchel has made no secret of his desire for this change to be implemented. Especially given the injury issues he's had to deal with this season and his liberal use of rotation.

The most telling part of his response refers to "intensity" within a game, either increasing or maintaining the desired level within games from next season. Chelsea struggled to find the right tempo for long periods in their dreadful loss to Brentford on Saturday, one of the Blues' worst performances under Tuchel.

Conor Gallagher, currently on loan at Crystal Palace, comes to mind when discussing the intensity that could be injected starting next season. Gallagher's ball-playing ability has emerged this season, providing a goal threat from Patrick Vieira's midfield. However, his level of pressing and speed make him a perfect fit for Tuchel's philosophy.

The figures show how much ground the Cobham graduate covers in a Premier League game. Gallagher ran 12.5km against Manchester City, the most distance covered by a Crystal Palace player in any Premier League game this season.

As Tuchel looks to improve Chelsea's style ahead of the 2022/23 season, Gallagher could emerge as a real threat off the bench, either increasing the intensity or, as Tuchel mentioned, maintaining what is already on the pitch. This rule change appears to be perfectly suited to the German's coaching style, and with Gallagher returning from loan this summer, he now has another weapon to use against opponents.
