Ghanaian defender, Alexander Djiku writes history in the French Ligue1 after becoming the league's most capped Ghanaian player.

After featuring for Strasbourg FC against Lens on Sunday, the player now has 182 appearances in France's top flight. He has already surpassed Andre Dede Ayew, the Black Stars captain and former Olympic Marseille attacker. The Strasbourg defender has now made more appearances than Andre Ayew, who had previously held the record of 182 appearances.

Alexander Djiku has now made the most Ligue 1 appearances of any Ghanaian (183). Andre Ayew's previous record of 182 appearances has been broken by the defender. The 28-year-old center back began his career with Bastia B before being promoted to the senior team after putting in strong performances. From 2014 to 2017, he was a member of the team for three years.

He then joined Caen, where he stayed for two seasons from 2017 to 2019, before joining Strasbourg in 2019 and remaining there ever since.

Since making his debut in a friendly match against Mali in October 2020, Alexander Djiku has been capped 11 times by Ghana.

Let us hope that he continues to write history and makes Africa proud.
