Following Real Madrid's defeat, Thomas Tuchel believes Chelsea's Champions League tie is over.

Chelsea's Champions League hopes have already been dashed, according to Thomas Tuchel, following their 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge.

Following two brilliant headers by Karim Benzema, the Champions League holders found themselves two goals down after 24 minutes in what Tuchel described as their "worst half ever."

Chelsea's Kai Havertz pulled a goal back before the break, but Benzema capitalized on errors from Edouard Mendy and Antonio Rudiger to complete his hat-trick shortly after the restart.

Chelsea must now win the return leg at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday in order to advance to the Champions League semi-finals.

However, when asked after his team's defeat if Chelsea's tie with Real Madrid was still alive, Tuchel replied, 'No. Not at all.

'How come it isn't alive?' Because we need to find our level, and I'm not sure where it is.' Since the international break, the first half has been a re-enactment of the second half against Brentford in a quarter-final match against Real Madrid.

'We're completely out of our league in every aspect of the game.' This level of performance will not yield a result.

'We have to prepare for Saturday and not think about the Bernabeu today because we play Southampton on Saturday and if we continue to play like this, we will not get a point.'

When asked if saying the tie is over sends the right message to his Chelsea players, Tuchel replied, 'If you want to put it on this sentence, put it on this sentence, honestly.' My attention is focused on Southampton rather than Real Madrid in the coming week.

'Is this still alive today?' No. No, not with this performance.
