The Argentine coach's team narrowly lost to Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League quarter finals this week after defeating United in the Round of 16. 

 

Diego Simeone, manager of Atletico Madrid, has explained what Manchester United lacks that "all managers want" in their team. 

The Argentine led his team to a Champions League Round of 16 victory over United, who are currently without a permanent manager. Simeone, on the other hand, pointed out this week how United lags behind city rivals.

 

Manchester City, who defeated Atletico Madrid 1-0 in the first leg of their quarter-final tie on Tuesday thanks to Kevin De Bruyne's second-half strike. 

Erik Ten Hag, the 52-year-old manager of Ajax, met with United officials last month to discuss becoming the club's new manager, and is widely regarded as the leading candidate to take the job on a permanent basis this summer. Former United manager and fellow Dutchman Louis van Gaal, on the other hand, has discouraged him from taking the job. 

 

Mauricio Pochettino, the coach of Paris Saint-Germain, is also a candidate. As previously reported in February, Pochettino was the early favorite to take over as manager of Manchester United. The Argentine was later revealed to be the preferred candidate among the players in United's dressing room, according to Mirror Football. Pochettino has also met with Pochettino.

 

Simeone, who has previously been linked with the Old Trafford job, has now spoken about how the club is falling behind their domestic rivals. The Atletico Madrid manager told reporters ahead of this week's match at the Etihad Stadium: "United's characteristics were distinct from those of City. They're more direct and faster. City is more positional, and they manage things well in all areas. We need to build on and improve on the positive things we did (against United)." What I admire most about teams like Manchester City is their determination to regain possession of the ball and continue to attack. They're a joy to watch.
