Dr. Donkor, President Mahama's former Energy Minister, said that dumsor will be restored as a result of a "insignificant increase in our generation capacity."
However, in a press release issued on behalf of Minister of Energy Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Ministry dismissed "the assertion by the former Power Minister that there is a possibility of returning to 'dumsor' due to the situation of generational capacity."
"In line with our predicted demand and wise management of the Energy sector, the Ministry of Energy is certain that this country will not return to the dark days of 'dumsor,'" according to the Ministry.
Speaking on the subject, Mr. Kwasi Obeng-Fosu, the ministry's Public Relations Officer, emphasized that as a nation, we must exercise caution in order to avoid wasteful take-or-pay contracts that are draining our coffers in the guise of increasing our generation mix.
"The available data do not support Dr. Donkor's allegation that the NPP government has not added'significantly' to energy producing capacity. The government believes that, in order to avoid overcapacity and its accompanying concerns, judicious additions to generation capacity must be made, and that the additions must be based on expected demand."
This government has installed a total of 421MW of generation capacity as of now. This takes Ghana's total installed capacity to 5358.50MW, compared to a current high demand of 3,469MW recorded on March 18, 2022. As a result, we're doing a better job of controlling the problem. He went on to say.
