The House of Commons has gone into recess.
Second Deputy Speaker Andrew Amoako Asiamah, while closing the first meeting of the Second Session of the Eighth Parliament, said the meeting saw one of the greatest tests to the country's democracy as a fresh Constitutional meaning was given to age-old practices. Despite all of this, he continued, the House has emerged stronger from its first meeting of the year.
During the recess, he encouraged MPs to stay in touch with their constituents. Mr. Asiamah spoke on behalf of Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of the House.
On behalf of the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin said the House rose to the occasion this time, conducting business with decorum and respect for each other's viewpoints. He was concerned about the slow pace of work, which required a long time to deliberate due to quorum issues.
Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, the Minority Whip, congratulated his colleagues, Parliamentary staff, and the Press Corps for a good meeting on behalf of Minority Leader Haruna Idrissu.
