During his news conference on Thursday, the Derby County manager was asked about the Portuguese superstar's remark, and he agreed that Ronaldo may have had a point.

Wayne Rooney has responded to Cristiano Ronaldo's social media post accusing him of envy after he questioned Cristiano Ronaldo's value to Manchester United.

After leaving Juventus, Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo rejoined United in a high-profile summer deal last year. It insured the forward's return to United after an 11-year absence, and he has been the club's top scorer this season, with 18 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions.Ronaldo has performed some amazing heroics, particularly in the Champions League group stage, where he scored six goals in five outings, but he is now 37 years old and will undoubtedly see physical deterioration. While Rooney acknowledged Ronaldo's "big goals" this season, he argued United would be better off depending on "new, eager players" in the future.

Rooney emphasized the importance of his younger colleagues "bringing enthusiasm," adding, "I think they've got terrific young players." I believe [Jadon] Sancho and Marcus [Rashford] will be better the following season. They have very good young players, and I believe Jesse Lingard should play for them because he adds enthusiasm and skill."Scott McTominay has performed well, so they have some promising young players. They simply need to establish that confidence, get them to believe they are strong players and capable of performing at a higher level, and then whoever the next manager is will bring his own players in and try to rebuild that group."

Ronaldo appeared to take issue with Rooney's words and responded to his ex-Monday teammate's Night Football Instagram post alongside Sky Sports analyst Jamie Carragher and presenter David Jones with the comment: "Two jealous." It appeared to be a lighthearted remark in response to Rooney's comments that United would be better off without the Portuguese forward next season.Let Your Voice Be Heard! Cristiano Ronaldo responded to Wayne Rooney on Instagram.

During a press conference on Thursday, Derby County manager Wayne Rooney responded to a query about the remark, saying, "I saw it this morning! I believe there isn't a single footballer on the earth who isn't envious of Cristiano! His profession, the awards he's won, the money he's made...and the six-pack, his body. Every player, with the exception of Lionel Messi, is envious of Cristiano!"Ronaldo and Rooney played five seasons together at United, beginning in the summer of 2004 when the latter joined Sir Alex Ferguson's club from Everton. Over the span of five years before Ronaldo joined Real Madrid, the two went on to establish one of Europe's most explosive attacks.

The two were key members of Manchester United's all-conquering squad, which won three consecutive Premier League titles between 2007 and 2009, as well as the 2008 Champions League crown and reaching the following year's final. When the two stars were on the team, United won seven trophies in all, including the League Cup, Club World Cup, and Community Shield.
