Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has responded to Cristiano Ronaldo's 'jealous' Instagram remark.

Following the Red Devils' 1-1 draw with Leicester City at the weekend, Rooney launched a scathing attack on the forward on Monday.

At his most recent press conference, the Derby County manager responded to his former teammate by insisting that there will be no player on the planet - other than Lionel Messi - who is not envious of Ronaldo.

When asked on Sky Sports Monday Night Football if signing veteran Ronaldo, 37, had worked for United, Rooney responded, 'You'd have to say no at the moment.'

'I believe he has scored goals, particularly important goals in the Champions League early in the season.' He scored three goals against Tottenham.

'However, if you look to the future of the club, I believe you would have to go with younger, hungry players to do your best to lift Manchester United over the next two, three years.'

Rooney shared an Instagram photo of himself in the Sky studio with Jamie Carragher and host presenter Dave Jones on Wednesday. Later that day, Ronaldo made the remark, "two jealous."

During his latest Derby County press conference, Rooney was asked about his former teammates' remark, to which he responded.

'I'd say there isn't a single footballer on the planet who isn't envious of Cristiano Ronaldo.' His career, the trophies he's won, the money he's made.

'The six-pack, his body,' he added, a wry smile on his face. 'I believe every player, with the exception of Lionel Messi, is envious of Cristiano.'Ronaldo has scored 18 goals since rejoining United in the summer and is the club's leading scorer this season.

Other pundits and fans, however, have criticized him, claiming that his presence is impeding the squad's progression and performance.
