On the tenth anniversary of Sergio Aguero's title-clinching strike, Manchester City will unveil a monument honoring the club great. In 2012, the Argentine scored in injury time against QPR to take the team to Premier League victory.
On the 13th of May, the unveiling will be the highlight of a day of anniversary celebrations at the club's Ethiad Stadium. The club stated that the striker's "legacy" and "one of the greatest comebacks" will be honored.
City won the Premier League for the first time since 1968 thanks to Aguero's goal in the fourth minute of extra time in the last game of the 2011-12 season.
His statue, which has been crafted by sculptor Andy Scott, will stand alongside the artist’s statues of Aguero’s teammates Vincent Kompany and David Silva
Manchester City said it was "delighted" to be celebrating "probably one of the greatest comebacks in sporting history" with events in Manchester and throughout the world.
"A statue planned and sculpted by renowned sculptor Andy Scott will be unveiled to honor Sergio Aguero's legacy," a spokeswoman said.
A total of 2,000 supporters will be given the opportunity to attend an event when important players of the title-winning side, including Aguero, will be questioned on stage.
Aguero, who departed City in June 2021 after a 10-year career in which he scored 260 goals and won five Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and six League Cups, retired in December due to health concerns.
The 33-year-old is still the highest-scoring foreign player in the league.
