Wayne Rooney makes his prediction for Manchester City vs. Liverpool FC clash

Wayne Rooney explains why he believes Liverpool FC can defeat Manchester City at The Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Wayne Rooney believes Liverpool FC will beat Manchester City in Sunday's Premier League title match at The Etihad Stadium.

The Reds go into the game hoping to move ahead of the Citizens in the title race, with Liverpool FC currently a point behind Pep Guardiola's defending champions.

Jurgen Klopp's side briefly led the table after a 2-0 victory over Watford on Saturday afternoon, but City quickly regained the lead after a 2-0 win away at Burnley later in the day.

The stage is now set for a mouth-watering clash at The Etihad Stadium, as Liverpool FC attempt to leapfrog the Citizens into first place with seven games remaining after Sunday's clash.

Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney admits that he "wishes" that neither Liverpool FC nor Manchester City would win the Premier League this season, but when asked about the game on Sunday, he tipped the Reds to win.

"The game on Sunday could decide who wins the title because I don't think either team will drop points," Rooney said on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football.

"They may be the two best teams in Europe right now, and I believe City's response to Liverpool winning the early kick-off was massive and that is what champions do.

"When they both have a pressure game, they take away the pressure and win the game." We now have a very interesting game coming up on Sunday."

When asked who he thought would win the title, Rooney said, "I wish none of them."

"I think it could go either way," he continued. Liverpool and Manchester City are both on a roll. I believe Liverpool can win there."

Liverpool FC has been in excellent form in recent weeks, winning their last ten Premier League games in a row to close the gap on Manchester City at the top of the table.

Following Sunday's game, the Merseyside club will face Manchester United, Everton, and Newcastle United in their next three games.

The Reds will also play Manchester City once again, this time in the FA Cup semi-finals, on Saturday 16 April.
