Carvalho, a youthful Portuguese attacker for Fulham, will join Liverpool at the end of the season, adding to Jurgen Klopp's thrilling forward options.Liverpool has a lot on their plate right now, but they're already planning for next year.
That much was clear after it was revealed that they had signed an early contract with intriguing offensive potential Fabio Carvalho. The Fulham teenager's contract will expire in a few months, allowing him to discuss his future with clubs outside of England. Domestic teams, on the other hand, must either pay a tribunal fee or agree to a move with Fulham, which Liverpool has done.
Carvalho has seven goals and seven assists in the Championship so far this season, and the Reds are expected to pay £7.7 million for him. One of the most pressing questions surrounding his move at the end of the campaign is what shirt number he will wear. The Portuguese have no noteworthy numbers available at first look. James Milner (7), Naby Keita (8), Roberto Firmino (9), Sadio Mane (10) and Mohamed Salah (11) are the typical attackers' numbers seven to eleven (11).
Milner's number could be up for grabs, although the club has offered him a new contract after his current one expires. Even if the veteran were to leave, it would be a bold move for Liverpool to hand up such an iconic shirt to a youngster who is still only 19. In increasing order, the next available number is 16, which hasn't been worn since the mostly unknown Marco Grujic. Numbers 19, 24, and 25 are also unoccupied at the moment. Carvalho presently wears number 28 for Fulham, and there's a chance he'll keep it on Merseyside. After joining the Reds in early 2021, Ben Davies was given that number, but he has never played for Jurgen Klopp's side and is currently on a season-long loan at Sheffield United. His future is still unknown.Carvalho will join Liverpool for £5 million on July 1, with the Premier League club agreeing to a 20% sell-on fee and a further £2.7 million in add-ons. Despite their January talks falling through, the Fulham star is set to sign a contract that will keep him at the club until 2027. Klopp wanted a deal done before the end of the winter window, but it fell through because EFL clubs are not permitted to file 'deal of which Premier League clubs are permitted to do.
Fulham manager Marco Silva stated immediately after the failed transfer that Carvalho was unaffected by the failure. "Fabio is overjoyed," he remarked.
