Some of the persons chosen for jury duty in the trial of two teens accused of killing an 11-year-old boy for ceremonial purposes in Kasoa last year are undergoing extensive training.
The trial court had instructed the registrar to create a list of qualified people available for jury empanelling in order to expedite the case's hearing.
When the matter was called, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, who presided over the hearing, claimed that the registrars had told her that the few persons who had been invited for empanelling were being taught at the Judicial Training Institute.
She stated that the registrar has requested a few extra days to complete the paperwork. As a result, the case was deferred until May 11, 2022, when the seven-member jury will be empanelled.
At the most recent meeting, the court emphasized the need of appointing a competent jury for the trial, excluding everyone above the age of 55 and those with health issues from the pool.
The pool is to be made up of impartial persons, with no professional jurors — jurors who have served on many jury trials – according to the court.
