A trailer filled with sacks of cashew crashed on the cars at the Airport Roundabout in Kumasi, injuring some people on board a compact commercial 'trotro' bus and a taxi cab.
The trailer is alleged to have failed when braking, but it was still able to manoeuvre until it hit the Airport Roundabout.
The trailer driver, according to an eyewitness, planned to use the Roundabout as a guard to avoid hurting others.
Rather than reversing, the trotro and taxi drivers chose to cross swiftly and were involved in the collision.
The occupants of the commercial cars, numbering in the tens, were unharmed.
The injured are being treated at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and the Manhyia Government Hospital, including the trailer driver.
Due to severe vehicular traffic on the Aboabo-Airport Roundabout stretch as well as other connection routes, several air travellers missed their flight by an hour.
Later, police were able to take the vehicles off the road, allowing traffic to flow more freely.
"After we clear the road, we'll look into the actual reason of the collision," said ASP Frederick Oppong Egyire of the Airport MTTD.
