Some parts of the Tamale Technical University (TaTu) Getfund old hostel were submerged in floods after a heavy downpour which obstructed Students peace of mind 07th April, 2022, Thursday night, My Entertainment and news GH has gathered.
The rains which, according to students, started around 8PM continued unabated for about 4hours, causing high depth floods in major areas of the Hostel.
My Entertainment and news GH has gathered that the development has left many students, particularly those in the university’s hostels stranded as they move to safeguard their personal belongings against damage.
Students lodging in the diaspora where the majority of student hostels are found were the major victims of the flood. Flood water overflowed in hostels, roads and gutters causing havoc to students’ belongings and properties.
Human movement in the hostel of the university was almost impossible due to the floodwater both outside and inside of the hostel.
More so, the directive became necessary as most of the route from the from Gbewa and Nkrumah halls and hostels were submerged in water, becoming unmotorable.
Students staying in the above halls said that, "The full Hostel needs renovation but authorities are not listening to them"
Some affected residents have attributed the floods to a lack of proper drainage systems, and the ongoing construction works on the Tamale interchange.
They have called on authorities to urgently address the situation.
“This is not the first time, but what happened this night [Thursday] is quite unfortunate. Almost every room in the Gbewa and Nkrumah halls are flooded. We are appealing to the Hall masters and Administration to come to our aid,” an affected student said.
“They should change the window woods and fix new luvers for us. As I speak, our room window is not cover with even a net and the woods has broken down. The entire old hostel has been submerged in water. We want the Hall masters to come to our aid immediately because we are paying monies to them,” another student said.
The students describe the situation as “disastrous and understands that the safety of all of students is most paramount in this critical dilemma.”
