Henry Quartey, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, has praised the Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Osei Assibey Antwi, for his innovative and active leadership.
The mayor of Accra is particularly impressed with his initiatives for lowering the country's graduate jobless rate.
Mr Quartey explained that the decision to move the scheme's focus from deployment to employment and skill supply was in line with President Akufo-goal Addo's of equipping young people with the skills they need to become global industrial leaders.
The effort, dubbed "Deployment for Employment," aims to improve service personnel's capabilities so that they can get the necessary skills to be self-employed or gainfully hired by any organization following their service.
Since Mr Antwi took office, the Scheme has added additional modules, including as the Impact Hub, which is designed to train NSPs on how to develop computer software and applications, and the NSS-GTA Support Module, which is designed to promote and help the Ghanaian tourism industry.
The remaining modules are the NSS Construction and Estate Housing module, which aims to build low-cost residences for instructors, classroom blocks, and pavements, among other things.
Mr Quartey presented the award on a working visit to the NSS headquarters in Accra to familiarize himself with the scheme's operations, vision, and projects.
