Edward Bawa, a member of Parliament's Mines and Energy Committee, has stated that he would be glad if the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) cut off power to Parliament.

His remark comes after the ECG gave a three-day deadline to the Parliamentary Service and other state institutions to pay their debts or risk being cut off from the national grid.

"In fact, if ECG disconnects Parliament tomorrow, I'll be extremely glad," he said.

To avoid such debts, the Bongo MP repeated that all government agencies in the nation must be put on a pre-paid meter.

In response to the ECG's notification, Mr. Bawa remarked on JoyNews Prime on Friday that "government entities and Ministries are the greatest culprits when it comes to defaulting in payment for energy services."

"Why would UPSA refuse to pay for the use of electricity?" Why is it that the Ministry of Communication refuses to pay?

"I realize that if you go to a hospital, I anticipate that the theaters and other services should not be on pre-paid meters, but rather on credit meters." What, on the other hand, will you say about a Doctor's apartment being on a credit meter?" he questioned

He said that as a result of the ECG's unwillingness to pay for its services, the Ministry of Energy set an example by subscribing to the pre-paid meter, "so that when they go to buy electricity and the power is spent, they go off."
