A 53-year-old fisherman was sentenced to 15 years in jail by an Accra Circuit Court for defiling a 10-year-old girl at La.
Samuel Odoi Yemofio, who is accused of defilement, has entered a not guilty plea. Yemofio was found guilty at the conclusion of the trial presided over Judge Christina Cann.
The complainant is a shopkeeper in La, and she is the victim's auntie, according to Chief Kofi Atimbire. The victim, according to Chief Inspector Atimbire, was a class four student who resided with the complaint.
On January 12, about 4:30 p.m., the victim who had been ordered to go sell ice cream returned home and said that Yemofio had enticed her into his room, gagged her, and defiled her on her way home.
The complainant reported the incident to the La Police Department after hearing about the victim's trauma.
The case was eventually forwarded to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit's Cantonment Division, where the complainant was given a medical form to fill out in order to seek medical attention for the victim.
Yemofio was eventually apprehended by the police, but in his caution statement, he adamantly denied the offense.
