Barcelona has ruled out the signing of Chelsea defender - Fabrizio Romano
Fabrizio Romano recently tweeted an update on Barcelona's summer defensive reinforcements search.
The Catalans have been linked with Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, and Cesar Azpilicueta, three of Chelsea's key defenders.
While many expect Christensen to join the Barça squad next season after signing a €6 million per season contract, the club's interest in Rudiger has grown in recent weeks, with the club reportedly in secret talks with the player's agents.
However, Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on Barcelona's hopes of signing Rudiger, claiming that the club has only held talks with the player's representatives and has yet to launch an official bid.
It is now very unlikely that Barça will be able to complete Rudiger's capture. The renowned Italian journalist, on the other hand, guarantees Christensen's arrival, which should significantly improve the team's overall defensive depth.
In addition to the arrival of the Danish international, Romano believes Barcelona is on the verge of extending Ronald Araujo's contract.
There were some disagreements about the club's willingness to offer more lucrative contracts to new signings such as Christensen and Kessie, but it appears the defender is eager to stay at Camp Nou due to his positive relationship with Xavi.
Former Barcelona star Luis Suarez has also urged the Uruguayan international to stay at the club, believing that Camp Nou would be an ideal environment for the defender's development in the coming years.
Barcelona even hinted at Araujo's renewal with a recent Twitter video.
The addition of Christensen, combined with the extension of Araujo, could breathe new life into Barcelona's defense next season, as the club embarks on a new era under Xavi Hernandez's leadership.
