Pep Guardiola's team leads the league with 73 points, one more than the Reds, with only seven games remaining after this weekend. While Liverpool come in Manchester on the back of a 10-game winning streak in the Premier League, City, who are chasing a fourth title in five seasons, have dropped five points in their last five games since winning 4-0 at Norwich on February 12.

If the Reds win, they will finish the day on top of the standings for the first time since October 1.

The club in second has won seven of the previous eight Premier League encounters between the top two sides to take place inside the last ten games of the season, including the last five in a row.

Liverpool, who have already won the Carabao Cup, are still in contention for a historic quadruple, while City is targeting glory in the Champions League, FA Cup, and league as well.

"There's a lot to play for, and for those you need momentum and rhythm," Reds manager Jurgen Klopp remarked.

Klopp acknowledges that when Guardiola retires, he will not be sad to see him go.

"I'm not going to miss it," he stated.

"Everything I say about the city is true. No doubt, Pep Guardiola is the finest coach in the world, but I've always aspired to be the coach of a squad capable of defeating the best team in the world.

"Actually, I managed to accomplish that as well, and now we just have to make sure Sunday is the day."
