As Harry Maguire's dismal form continues, Nemanja Vidic has proposed that he ask Ralf Rangnick for a few of weeks off.

As captain of a chaotic, under-achieving team that currently sits seventh after their latest defeat, Maguire has been the target of much criticism this season.

On Saturday afternoon, the Everton centre-back diverted Anthony Gordon's attempt into his own net, giving the Toffees a critical three points in their quest for survival. United are now in seventh place, with a mountain to climb if they are to qualify for the Champions League.

With Maguire in such poor form, former United captain Vidi believes he could benefit from a break from the spotlight for a few weeks.

Vidic was asked what advice he would provide to the struggling defense in an interview. "Maguire is clearly not at his best this season." "I believe there are a few things you can do, one of which is not to play every match while you try to regain your form and confidence," the Serbian explained.

"It's difficult to play effectively when you're under a lot of pressure because everyone is expecting you to make a mistake"If a player tells his coach that he isn't feeling well on the field, it isn't a problem.

"If he says, 'Give me a break, give me a couple of weeks to regroup and train properly, and then I'll play again,' you should listen. I'd had a few of bad games for United and wanted to regroup and progress. Rangnick's next opponents are relegation rivals Norwich City, whom they will host at Old Trafford before heading to Anfield, where they will hope for a dramatic improvement in performance in order to avoid another 5-0 humiliation.
