The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Academics in Accra (UPSA) has advised university freshmen to concentrate on their studies and avoid love offers from their peers.

Prof. Abednego F.O. Amartey, speaking to first-year students at the matriculation ceremony on Friday, warned the campus lads and girls will break their hearts if they focus on relationships rather than their academics.

"You're here for four years, two years to focus on your studies, and three years to focus on your studies," he explained.

"I know what I'm saying," he said, "and some of you will persuade yourself that you've heard me, but you won't take my advise." Well, the outcome has always been the same: a broken heart."

He also mentioned that they will be overwhelmed with suggestions from continuing students as freshmen, but that concentration should be their guiding word.

"They will come to you like butterflies," he added, recalling the term "October rush" from his days on university. "Please take it slow, take your time," he advised.

"Take your time, study, pass, and then come for your masters, and you'll be free to do anything you want." Prof Amartey continued, "For the time being, your parents are paying your fees."

"Make sure they are transformed at the conclusion of your diploma or degree programme," the UPSA Vice-Chancellor advised first-year students.

"Aim for a good mix of education and job that will prepare you for adventures beyond school." Keep in mind why you are here; the institution will do everything it can to assist you, but you are ultimately accountable for yourself."

"Coming this far is an exciting moment in your life," he says, "one that will aid your academic, personal, and social development."

As a consequence, they should take advantage of the chance to work hard in order to complete the program and not compromise.
