The National Pensions Regulatory Authority's (NPRA) Chief Executive Officer, Mr Hayford Attah-Krufi, has indicated that retirees do not require attorneys to receive their pension payments after retirement.
He said that the days of seniors having to fight tooth and nail to get their payments were past thanks to the practical steps put in place by the Authority for all pension providers to follow, including the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
He despised the method that would force retirees to live terrible lives after retirement, pursuing their benefits for years.
Mr. Attah Krufi was addressed at an outreach effort by the NPRA in the Oti Region, according to an official statement signed by Nana Sifa Twum, the Head of Corporate Affairs, and copied to the GNA.
The outreach initiative helped local employees in the informal sector understand and appreciate the importance of joining and actively participating in pension plans.
Fora on pensions were held in Kete-Krachi, Dambai, and Nkwanta during the week-long program to educate the informal sector employees.
The NPRA also taught formal sector employees on pensions and related issues.
"When all steps are completed correctly and on time, collecting one's pension benefit should not be accompanied by any sort of litigation or end in the courts," the CEO said.
"After serving one's nation, no one should have to go through any stress in order to collect what is owed to him," he continued.
Mr Krufi recommended employees to update their data with pension service providers, particularly the SSNIT, on a regular basis to speed up the processing of their payments.
He cited numerous dates of birth, odd pauses in contributions, and name changes as some of the reasons for delays in the processing of pension payments, and advised employees to double-check these before proceeding.
