After last Friday's severe rains that poured in several sections of Accra, spare parts and tyre sellers along the Abossey Okai stretch of road, where the Abossey Okai Interchange is now under construction, are calculating their losses.

Around the Abossey Okai road and its surrounds, a one-hour downpour inundated the stores of shopkeepers and business owners.

Thousands of dollars worth of products were damaged by the flood that penetrated the stores and enterprises of these shop owners and merchants, particularly those in the tyre and battery sector.

When the Daily Graphic spoke with several of the impacted company owners, they stated they were at a loss as to how to recoup their losses and reopen their stores.

I'm The Daily Graphic, and I've seen some of the establishments impacted, including Samir Engineering and Trading, Samnit Enterprise, and the Korle-Bu Battery Center, where the flood had flooded over their offices and stores, making it hard for both consumers and employees to enter.

The inhabitants accused the construction of the new overpass and flyover by the Brazilian construction firm Queiroz Galvao Construcao for the constant destruction of their belongings, estimated to be worth thousands of cedis.

They claimed that the bridge construction had ruined the old drainage system and raised the ground, making rains impossible to travel freely and therefore allowing rains to readily enter their stores.

When the Daily Graphic called the Resident's Engineer, Mr Owusu Sekyere-Antwi stated that the drains will be reconstructed, but he could not specify when this would happen.
