Albert Kan Dapaah, Minister of National Security, has remarked on the need of a strong and fair judicial system in safeguarding the country's peace and stability.
According to him, a strong judiciary is critical to the peace process because it allows people to seek justice via the courts rather than taking the law into their own hands.
He made these remarks during a meeting with members of the judiciary last week to examine the third branch of government's position in Ghana's national security architecture.
"We need to guarantee that there is a functioning justice system if we are to confront the security concerns that we have, particularly domestically.
"In attempting to handle the security situation, it is crucial for us to get a judicial system that works, and we are all happy that throughout the sub-region, we are recognized as a country where the legal system works and where you can anticipate justice," he said.
"If the interpretation of the law is always biased in our favor," he said, "people will start criticizing the court and will not have the confidence that they require."
The remark on a perceived unbalanced reading of the law drew a lot of attention on social media, with several people wondering if it was true.
