The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Ghana Electricity Company (ECG) have informed the public that the ongoing repair of transmission lines from Achimota to Mallam substations would not result in any DUMSOR.
"Our attention has been drawn to press reports with headlines such as "DUMSOR to hit Accra for 84 days" in reference to a public statement issued by GRIDCo, which announced the commencement of the reconstruction of transmission lines from Achimota to Mallam substations," according to a joint statement issued by GRIDCo and ECG and copied to the Ghana News Agency.
"While we confirm that rehabilitation work on our transmission lines began on Saturday, April 9, we want to reassure the public that there will be no DUMSOR as a result of the continuing operation."
Phase 1 of the transmission line reconstruction project from Mallam Substation to Avenor was performed and successfully completed in November 2021, according to the statement, with no substantial disruption to electricity delivery in Accra and its surrounds.
Phase 2 of the exercise, from Achimota Substation to Avernor, will not impact electricity delivery in Accra, according to the statement.
The Pokuase and Kasoa Substations were commissioned as part of GRIDCo and ECG's efforts to improve electricity distribution in Accra and its surrounds, according to the statement.
According to the statement, the Kasoa, Mallam, Accra Central, Pokuase, and Achimota Substations have sufficient transformer capacity to handle demand without load restriction or load shedding.
"We want to reassure Ghanaians once more that GRIDCo and ECG are working together successfully to offer power while the rebuilding work is ongoing.
