Palm Sunday is a Christian holiday observed on the Sunday before Easter. Jesus' triumphant arrival into Jerusalem is commemorated on this feast.
The multitudes of Jerusalem laid down palm fronds enthusiastically rejoicing and revering the entrance of their King, thus the name "Palm Sunday." People laid their clothing and leaves in front of Jesus as if they were paying homage to a king. It can be understood spiritually as our duty to lay down our life for Christ.
According to Luke 19:31, Jesus sent two disciples ahead of Him on His route to Jerusalem to the town of Bethphage, which was approximately a mile from the city at the foot of the Mount of Olives.
He instructed them to seek a donkey tethered to a home and its unbroken colt. The disciples approached Jesus with the donkey and its colt, placing their cloaks on the colt. Jesus sat atop the young donkey and made his triumphant entry into Jerusalem gently and respectfully.
People in front of him tossed their cloaks on the ground and placed palm branches on the route. Others welcomed him into Jerusalem by waving palm branches in the air.
Numerous people encircled Jesus, sobbing and shouting "Hosanna to the Son of David!" according to Matthew 21:9. He who comes in the name of the Lord is blessed! "Hosanna in the highest!" exclaims the narrator.
Despite the fact that the crowd did not completely comprehend Jesus' message, they admired and respected him.
They questioned him, "Do you hear what these kids are saying?" "Yes," Jesus said, "have you never read, "
"Teacher, chastise your followers," several of the Pharisees from the crowd, who were envious of Jesus and fearful of the Romans, said. 'I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out,' Jesus said, according to Luke 19:39-40.
