After the death of the former Second Lady, Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Alan Kyerematen, and several members of the New Patriotic Patriotic Party, paid a visit to the Aliu Mahama family house to express their condolences.
On Thursday, April 7, 2022, the former Second Lady of Ghana died in the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where she had been admitted for some time.
Mr. Kyerematen recalled the late Hajia Ramatu as a pleasant woman who cared for all of her children. "Her soft and beautiful character was visible in all she did as she opened her doors to everybody in society," he stated of her time as Second Lady of the Republic."
Between 2001 until 2008, Hajia Ramatu Mahama served as Ghana's Second Lady while her late husband, Aliu Mahama, served as Vice President in former President John Agyekum Kufuor's two-term government.
She died when she was 70 years old, and she would have turned 71 in October. Farouk Aliu Mahama, a son of the late couple, is the current Member of Parliament for the Yendi seat.
The family of Ghana's late Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, has announced funeral and burial plans for the late Hajia Ramatu Mahama, the former vice president's wife.
A state funeral will be held in Independence Square on Saturday, April 9 for the entire public to pass past the body.
"The funeral will be conducted in line with Islam's religious practices. "The whole program will be led by the National Chief Imam," a family representative stated.
Meanwhile, her family has started a condolence book in her honor.
