Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi constituency and Minister of information, Kojo Opppong Nkrumah has reacted to the calls of Ghanaians for Dr. Bawumia to openly declare his stance on the electronic transactions levy which he vehemently opposed years ago.

Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia, Vice President of Ghana last week spoke on the state of Ghana's economy at a conference organized by the students wing of the NPP (TESCON). This was after several calls by Ghanaians over the sharp depreciating cedi and the worst economic difficulties facing them.

Reacting to the calls for Dr. Bawumia to openly declare his stance on the controversial electronic transaction levy, Opppong Nkrumah noted that the pressure being mounted on the Veep about e-levy is unnecessary.

He added government of which Dr. Bawumia is part through the finance ministry engaged the populace extensively through the town hall meets held in most of the regions of the country.

Oppong Nkrumah indicated that Dr. Bawumia was very instrumental in the drafting of the electronic transaction levy bill and proposes leading to it's passage in Parliament so for him, the calls are misplaced and unnecessary.

The electronic transactions levy is expected to begin in May, 2022 with a 1.50% charge on amounts above Gh¢100.
