Cristiano Ronaldo, a Manchester United forward, has apologized for slamming an Everton fan's phone on Saturday.
The 37-year-old was part of the team that lost 1-0 at Goodison Park, a result that puts United in seventh place and out of contention for a top-four finish next season unless their form improves and teams above them lose.
The defeat was yet another setback for Ronaldo, who has had a rough season, and for Ralf Rangnick, who has struggled since taking over as temporary manager following the firing of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
After the game, video footage appears to show the Portugal international striking an Everton fan's phone as he made his way to the changing room, drawing jeers from the crowd.
On Saturday night, Ronaldo apologized for his behavior and offered 'this supporter' the opportunity to attend a match at Old Trafford.
"Dealing with emotions in difficult moments like the one we're in is never simple," he added.

"However, we must always be respectful, tolerant, and set an example for all the young people who enjoy this wonderful game."
"I apologize for my reaction and, if feasible, I'd want to invite this fan to see a game at Old Trafford as a gesture of fairness and sportsmanship."
