Previous Colombian star midfielder Freddy Rincon is in basic condition following a crash between the vehicle he was going in and a transport, specialists said on Monday.
The 55-year-old previous Real Madrid and Napoli player was taken to clinic experiencing a "extreme head injury," said Dr Laureano Quintero of the Imbanaco Grupo Quironsalud center in the southern city of Cali.
Rincon was all the while going through a medical procedure and would be moved to concentrated care, the center's representative said.
"He is in a basic condition."
A Cali transport and "a truck apparently conveying four individuals" crashed at around 4:30am (0930 GMT), said Edwing Candelo, the nearby vehicle undersecretary.
Five individuals were harmed in the accident, including the transport driver, said Candelo.
Nearby media shared a video that showed the transport hitting the traveler side of the truck at an intersection.
Candelo said the pictures "recommend that the traffic signal was red when the truck crossed."
He said both the truck and transport might have been speeding.
The transport driver finished a breath assessment for liquor, while Candelo said it was not realized who was driving the truck.
Rincon was brought into the world in the southwestern port city of Buenaventura and was known as the "Monster" during his profession.
He was a star of the Colombia side that played at the World Cup in Italy in 1990.
He played a lot of his vocation in Brazil, showing up for Palmeiras and Corinthians among others.
"All our strenth and fondness goes out to Freddy after the mishap today," said Real Madrid on Twitter.
