Real Madrid has paid €22 million for Spanish playmaker Brahim Diaz, who is presently on loan at Serie A heavyweights AC Milan, according to Calciomercato. The Rossoneri, however, are hesitant to meet that valuation in order to sign him permanently in the summer, according to the report.

Diaz, a former Manchester City youth academy player, joined Real Madrid in January 2019. However, owing to the abundance of elite players ahead of him in the pecking order, the 22-year-old offensive midfielder never really enjoyed a lengthy run in the side at the Santiago Bernabeu. After only 21 appearances, the Spaniard was loaned out to AC Milan in the summer of 2020.

Diaz had a decent season with the Rossoneri in 2020/21, finishing with seven goals and four assists from 39 matches across all competitions. It encouraged Milan to take him on a two-year loan contract again last summer.

However, things haven't gone as planned for the Serie A heavyweights. Diaz has failed to maintain consistency this season. In 35 games in all competitions, the 22-year-old has four goals and four assists. He hasn't scored in Serie A since late September of last year, and he hasn't recorded an assist since December.

Diaz's deterioration in form is a major source of concern for Milan, who are fighting for the Serie A championship. Despite this,  Rossoneri is still interested in signing him on a permanent basis, either next summer or when his loan term expires in 2023.

Real Madrid is open to the notion of permanently unloading Diaz. According to Calciomercato, Los Blancos are seeking €22 million for their offensive midfielder, which AC Milan is unwilling to pay owing to the player's poor form this season.

According to the report, the two clubs will hold a meeting in the summer to discuss Diaz's future and the following steps. For his part, the former Manchester City prospect wants to stay in Milan for at least another year

A solid finish to the season from the 22-year-old might convince Milan to make his move permanent. If his bad performance persists, they may consider canceling the loan arrangement after just one year. It will be interesting to observe how the scenario develops in the next months.
