Guardiola compares his tenures at Barcelona and Manchester City and delivers a surprising verdict
Pep Guardiola has been one of the best managers in the world since breaking through at FC Barcelona more than a decade ago. Before leaving the Catalan club in 2012, he had won 16 major titles with them.
Guardiola later took over as manager of Bayern Munich before joining Manchester City in 2016. He has been at Etihad for nearly six years and has played a key role in the Sky Blues' rise to become one of the best teams in the world.
Guardiola recently opened up about his love for Barcelona and the close relationship he has with both the club and the city in a recent interview.
"I must admit that I am Barcelona. Barcelona has become a part of my life. It was a ballboy, and he was a teen. "Barcelona is a club that holds a special place in my heart," said Guardiola (h/t Marca), who made 384 competitive appearances for Barça during his playing career.
"I apologize, but it is what it is."
For me, Barcelona is unique. It's my home; it gave me the chance to be a player and a football manager, and I grew up there.
"All of my and my family's education through sport came from Barcelona," he added.
Guardiola compared his time at Barcelona to his current position at Manchester City, emphasizing how far he has come in the last decade.
"When I was younger and living in Barcelona, I was more anxious about everything, more sensitive for everything,” he admits. “Now I handle situations a little bit calmer.
“I’ve learnt a lot at City. I’m a completely different manager and I feel I’m a better manager than when I started out because of the experiences,” said the Catalan
