Dr Kingsley Nyarko, the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged Ghanaians to embrace the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) to assist the country's economy thrive.
The E-Levy, he claimed, would be a game-changer since it would contribute significantly to tax mobilization and economic management in Ghana.
"I'm relieved that the E-Levy was finally passed. It will be a game-changer since it would widen the tax base and increase money for government programs," he added.
Dr. Nyarko spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi after Parliament passed the E-Levy bill despite the Minority MPs walking out of the Chamber.
Context
The E-Levy is a new tax on fundamental transactions connected to digital payments and electronic platform transactions that was implemented by the government in the 2022 Budget.
It has been the subject of debate since residents have voiced their discontent with it.
There have also been a variety of financial and tax expert disputes over it, capturing the attention of the hung Parliament.
