Mohammed Iddi, alias Water, was detained by the Northern Regional Police Command for illegally possessing six foreign guns.
During normal police intelligence operations, the suspect was apprehended near the Pigu Police Barrier on the Tamale-Bolgatanga Highway.
Six new foreign-made '9mm Calibre Bruni 92' handguns were recovered as a result of the operation.
In a news statement signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr Kwesi Ofori, Director General, Public Affairs Unit, the police revealed this.
The defendant was brought before Tamale's High Court One on Friday and placed in police detention until April 25, 2022, according to the statement.
"We applaud the Northern Regional Police Command's vigilance, particularly the squad that was involved in this operation," it stated.
The police stated they were still dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure environment and asked for everyone's help.
