Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has established a nationwide campaign to instill in Ghana's young a culture of volunteering, civic duty, and nationalism.
The National Youth Volunteers Programme, run by the National Youth Authority (NYA), aims to instill a sense of altruism and volunteering among Ghana's youth and encourage them to participate in national development through voluntary activities.
The program will coordinate volunteer activities in the country and will implement 13 modules with the goal of developing active citizens, fostering national cohesion, and providing opportunities for young people to develop their skills.
According to officials with the National Youth Authority, the NYVP is anticipated to empower over 100,000 young people across the country over the next five years, with involvement periods ranging from one to twelve months.
Young people between the ages of 18 and 35 will be able to volunteer in a variety of fields, including agriculture, education, health, infrastructure, afforestation, community self-help, science, research, and technology.
Vice President Bawumia, speaking at the NYVP's launch on Monday, April 11th, 2022 at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, said that by providing a coordinated framework for streamlining volunteerism activities, the NYVP will provide an avenue for young Ghanaians to contribute their quota to national development by solving problems right from their homes.
