The leadership of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has debunked assertions that public school teachers should wear uniforms to work.
Teachers will wear dull peach-colored shirts and deep brown skirts and pants with the Ghana Education Service tag on the left pocket, according to social media postings.
GNAT's General Secretary, Thomas Musah, explained that there was no regulation requiring teachers to wear uniforms to class and urged the public to ignore incorrect information spread by bloggers on social media.
The Ministry of Education's spokeswoman, Kwasi Kwarteng, verified the report was false to Adom News, noting that such choices cannot be made independently.
Before enacting such a policy, he added that the Ministry would need to consult with the different teacher unions.
