Real Madrid completes another historic comeback to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League

They fell behind 3-0 on the night before rallying to win in extra time.

Real Madrid and the Champions League are a match unlike any other, as Chelsea discovered on Tuesday night when Los Blancos came from behind to defeat the current European and world champions.

Los Blancos lost 3-2 to claim a 5-4 aggregate victory after trailing 3-0 on the night.

Carlo Ancelotti's side were firmly in the driving seat heading into the second leg at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu after a 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge a week earlier,

but the Blues stormed the Spanish capital and caught the LaLiga Santander leaders cold in the first half.

Mason Mount put Chelsea ahead after a quarter-hour with a fine finish, and Los Blancos failed to respond.

Thomas Tuchel had stated that the tie was no longer alive after the first leg, and his words appeared to have had an effect, as his players appeared to be more hungry than their opponents.

That lead was doubled early in the second half by Antonio Rudiger, who scored after a corner that was incorrectly awarded.

Marcos Alonso thought he had made it 3-0 on the night, but the ball had struck his hand before he finished into the top corner, so his goal was correctly annulled.

However, Timo Werner scored the third goal, putting Real Madrid on the verge of elimination.

But, unlike in Europe, Los Blancos aren't a club that sits back and accepts their fate.

They persisted, and Luka Modric's moment of magic set up Rodrygo Goes to level on aggregate.

The Croatian produced a stunning outside-foot pass for the Brazilian to finish brilliantly.

Then, as extra time began, it was difficult to see anything other than a home win. Karim Benzema scored on the end of a cross from Vinicius Junior, and the writing was on the wall from there.

Chelsea pressed as extra time progressed, piling late pressure on the 13-time champions, but Ancelotti's side had enough to get over the line.

Real Madrid has joined fellow Spanish club Barcelona today Villarreal in the final four. Atletico Madrid may still join them.
