The 24-year-old center back was important to Real Madrid in the second half of the 2020/21 season when both Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane went down with injuries. This season, he is a starter every week, and he has grown into an important player to Los Blancos. And one of the best center backs not just in LaLiga, but in Europe as a whole.
Eder Militao and David Alaba work best in combination Withouthim on the pitch, we saw how valuable he is to Real and how much of a difference he makes. His unique combination of calmness and physicality were missed. Real Madrid were noticeably weaker in the box without him, and they were also less disciplined. Nacho Fernandez would step out when Alaba did, which led to Mason Mount’s momentum-shifting opener.
