The 44-year-old former Elephants captain has been permitted to contest for the top seat on April 23.

Didier Drogba, a Chelsea star, is one of six presidential candidates approved to run for the presidency of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) in the upcoming elections.

The 44-year-old was one of the candidates who submitted nomination papers to the Normalization Committee, and he was ultimately granted the green light to run.

"The filing of candidacies for the leadership of the Ivorian football federation is closed," the committee's President Mariam Dao Gabala said at a press conference, according to Africa News. There are six candidates on the list. Yatte Ellele Jean-Baptiste, Arnaud Aka, Laurent Kouakou, Idriss Diallo, Sory Diabate, and Didier Drogba are the names of the players.

Gabala has guaranteed a credible, free, and fair election, with the names of all competitors to be made public on April 15.

"We are prepared for these polls, and a peaceful election will help to project a positive image of Cote d'Ivoire." "I implore everyone not to add to the issue," Gabala said.

The elections are set for April 23, and Drogba, who has previously played for Marseille, Guingamp, and Galatasaray among other major European clubs, has stated that if elected, he will breathe fresh life into Ivorian football.

"At long last, we've arrived!" I'm excited for the campaign to begin. If elected, you can count on me to breathe new life into Ivorian football," Drogba stated.
